Water resistance of glass mat-faced gypsum sheathing.
I’m comparing all the major brands, including an integrated WRB panel. No face column this time – just a simple 5-hour ponding test with less than 3/16” of standing water. And it’s easy to integrate my dye tracing methods to visualize moisture transport over the course of hours or days.
Why study water resistance of glass mat sheathing?
Lots of reasons actually – and all are related to performance and durability. One topic of particular interest is the adhesion of WRBs – especially fluid-applied products and liquid flashings. The adhesion of these products is only as good as the adhesion of the facer. And facer adhesion is only as good as water allows it to be.
Some very interesting findings that I hope to share later this summer.
